You’re a stressed out zombie who can’t sleep at night, and are wondering why you can’t lose fat and gain any muscle…
It’s your phone’s fault.
You’re staring at it all day, checking those red notification dots…reading the news…scrolling posts designed to raise your heart rate and get you excited or scared or angry…
Making you feel like your body isn’t good enough and the world is coming to an end…
Staring at your phone screen, or acute focus on any tiny object, causes your brain to raise cortisol levels, so your stress hormone spikes…
(And then compound that with the content we’re seeing - eeeek.)
Media companies have worked for over a decade to design algorithms that are based on our brain chemistry…
And sorry, their goal isn’t to make us smarter or happier…
It’s to keep us staring at our little magic stress lights that are eating our brains.
This acute focus tells our bodies that we are under duress and need to store fat! And that muscle is definitely not a priority…
We can’t sleep at night and exhaustion prevents exercise the next day…
WHAT DO WE DO!? This:
The opposite of this tiny screen madness is broadening and softening your focus like looking out on the horizon and being out in nature, taking walks, swimming, playing with your dog, sharing a nice meal at the table...
This is why it feels relaxing to be at the beach (so long as you’re not trying to capture it all for social media).
In this case, our eyes adjust to a broad focus, thereby signaling to our brains that we are ok and that our bodies should relaaaaaax…
And then we can go back to using our fat for energy and to storing muscle for health.
So get the fuck off your phone (especially at night).
Look out into nature and at the horizon, get some sun, feel the sand and soil on your bare feet, and be present with your loved ones.
I’d be shocked if you don’t feel your body relax AND finally move the needle on that pesky body composition you've been wanting to change the last 5 or so years.
Make this your norm and feel calm, sleep better, increase your libido, think better, have more energy, keep fat off, gain nice man-muscles, and ultimately be happier.
If it doesn’t work you can have my brain for dinner. I won’t need it anymore.
